Start with the numbers

Pot odds compare the cost of a call with the pot you could win. Equity estimates the share of the pot a hand can expect against an opponent’s range. Expected value combines results and probabilities to estimate how profitable a decision is over time.

Example: Facing a $25 bet into a $50 pot, the pot becomes $75 before you call. Calling $25 makes the final pot $100, so the minimum equity required for a break-even call is 25% (before any future betting or rake).
