Ace-King on the Flop: Call or Fold?

A guided decision using a realistic hand, range assumptions and the price you face.

Worked decision · A♠K♠ on Q♦7♣2♥

Six-handed no-limit hold’em cash game, effective stacks 100 BB. You raise the button to 2.5 BB with A♠K♠, the big blind calls, and the flop is Q♦7♣2♥. After the big blind checks, you check back. On a blank turn, the big blind bets. A♠K♠ currently has ace-high with six apparent overcard outs against some one-pair hands, but those outs are not always clean.

How to decide

Check the price of the call, the bettor’s plausible range, the chance of improving, and whether ace-high can already win against bluffs. Without a bet size or a defensible range, there is no reliable universal call-or-fold answer.

Teaching point: a good decision accounts for both equity and range construction instead of relying on the strength of two high cards alone.
